Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs

self titled, AVOCADO records, 2008

Sounds like té with poppy vocals. Fantastic high energy stuff!
"Mass of the Fermenting Dregs is a post-rock/shoegaze trio formed in Kobe, Japan in 2002. They are also popularly known by a shortened form of their name, Masu Dore. They are known for a tightly arranged, guitar-driven style, melodic pop vocals and a high-energy stage presence at their live events" -wiki

My Education - Sunrise

Strange Attractors Audio House, 2010

These guys get better with every release. One of the best post-rock bands going. If you like the new Red Sparowes this is even better.

"There is a calamitous but oddly compelling tension that rears its head when the night hits its darkest hour. This is the feeling you get when My Education's newest LP, ‘Sunrise', takes off with soaring, cinematic instrumentals - an amazing concoction of guitar drones, melodic viola, and thundering rhythms.

Sunrise, a new album of pieces from their original score for F.W. Murnau’s 1927 silent masterpiece “Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans”, finds the band in peak form . Having perfected the material with live film performances over the last two years with sold out shows across the USA, My Education has captured 40 plus minutes of a soundtrack to the long dark night of the soul. Sunrise is an aural experience that is original and unique. This soundtrack finds parallels with the soundscapes Popol Vuh created for Werner Herzog’s films. All told, this is their most diverse and mature release to date." -myspace

Kammerflimmer Kollektief - Wildling

Staubgold, 2010

"At first glance, it's easy to mistake Germany's Kammerflimmer Kollektief for an experimental band. Their music features abstract vocals, electronics, and a sense of practiced spontaneity. But in fact, their focus is on musicianship, not innovation. Wildling is built from familiar units-- the patient development of jazz, the spacey glide of classic German psychedelia (think Cluster), and a bendy guitar style familiar from spaghetti Westerns scored by Ennio Morricone. With just a tinge of indie-rock melodicism and art-rock posture, KK bind these familiar touchstones into a striking personal sound." - pitchfork

Dimitri's Dungeon

Dimitri is the fucking man. The only person I know who listens to more music than I do. And he knows a lot more than I. His music knowledge is incredible. Also I listen to most genres of music, I'm pretty sure Dimitri listens to every genre. Ever. I've gotten a ton of great music off him over the years, some of which I've posted here, and he started making mixtapes a couple years ago. He's recently put all these mixtapes on his new blog, Dimitri's Dungeon.

I know nobody comes here for funky soul music. It's a shame you guys aren't really the target audience for most of these comps. But you're all open-minded and have diverse tastes. Hopefully some will be inspired to dig deeper into these genres. Probably the best comp for funk-newbies is Dimitri's Funk Favorites Part III - Fresh Grooves. The first two funk comps are about overlooked classic material and this is more about the stuff made in the last decade. Or start with the first Soul Mix which is the first compilation I got from Dimitri a couple years ago. You especially have to hear the Shuggie Otis track. Please share Dimitri's mixes with any websites/forums/blogs in the soul/funk scene, cuz those are the ears that will really dig these comps. There's also a sweet Hip-Hop comp here.

For those more into experimental music and exotic sounds (this is where most of my readers should start) you'll want to get Dimitri's Dungeon mixtapes. These comps run the gamut of every concievable genre of music. Weird and wild journeys that'll take you all around the world and back and forward through time! The comps have even more funk, Library Music tracks, mind-numbing Psych nuggets, Contemporary Classical pieces (even opera!), weird Italo stuff, smile inducing Electro tracks, dark 80's synth-pop, analog bleep bloop bullshit, electro-acoustic sound experiments, film music (like the epic Shredder's Suite from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), etc, etc...

I should also mention that Dimitri is insane and thinks a mixtape should be 3+hours long. With 9 mixes on his site there's probably almost 40 hours of music there!. A lot of tracks on these comps are just plain weird (some even annoying IMO). So these comps can be hard to get through but trust me, it's worth it for the incredible gems. Anyways I've never posted any mixtapes on here before but these come with my highest reccomendation. Happy listening.

P.S. If I ever get around to making mixes/comps I'll be posting them on Dimitri's page. Also Dimitri is working on two more mixes! Should be posted soon.
