The Pax Cecilia - Blessed Are the Bonds

"The Pax Cecilia's second LP Blessed Are the Bonds is forged from the same fires that gave listeners Circle Takes the Square's As the Roots Undo and Dredg's El Cielo. It is epic, original, heavy, pensive, and savagely compelling music. It is transcendent. It taps into something above normal perception and does this with a strange lack of pretention. The sound is a mix of post-rock (Engine Down), alternative (Dredg), metal (Isis), and screamo (City of Caterpillar). The musicianship and songwriting are beautiful and the emotional weight of the album is relentless. And to top it all off, the album is free!" Groundtruther

Groundtruther and DJ Logic - Longitude

Download: megaupload

Groundtruther and Greg Osby - Latitude

Download: megaupload

"Groundtruther have an interesting concept: electric/acoustic drummer Bobby Previte and eight-string guitar genius Charlie Hunter team up with an invited third member for albums of live improvisation. The first album, Latitude, was basically a continuation of Come In Red Dog, This Is Tango Leader (Hunter and Previte's first collaboration), with Greg Osby on sax adding an additional melodic element. For Longitude, DJ Logic is the invited guest, and the roles shift considerably. Since Logic has a wider sound palette than Osby does, Previte moves away from the electronic drums and triggered samples of earlier releases toward a more standard kit as Logic takes control of the "odd sounds." Hunter assumes more of a lead role without a melodic foil and often applies thick distortion. In fact, you've never heard so much distortion coming out of Hunter's rig, and it sounds fantastic. He also shows that he's a wicked lead player, and not always about sounding like two guys at once. Logic adds all kinds of interesting sonic flotsam and jetsam, and Previte really lets loose on a couple tunes. The album basically plays as serious grooves separated by shorter, sometimes ambient pieces, but it never gets boring or formulaic. It seems Groundtruther are just as versatile as they are musical. It will be interesting to see where the music goes when Altitude, the third in the trilogy, is released." - Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

Saddleback - Night Maps

"These uncanny atmospheres are the result of contrasting feels at play. These abstracted orchestrations featuring guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and electronic textures work in the cracks between jazz, folk, post-rock and classical, claiming a space between dark and light, both shimmering and haunting."

Phantomsmasher

"Phantomsmasher is James Plotkin's [not so] latest brain-teaser and arguably his most ferocious. Teaming up with drum-man-chine DAVE WITTE (Burnt by the Sun, Discordance Axis, Melt Banana) and voice-ripper/sonic guerilla DJ SPEEDRANCH, the trio has cast aside the limits of hardcore, electronics, and rock thus creating an inexplicable force of a sound. Soar through a windtunnel of guitar while being skinned alive by audiomulch vocals before you're pummeled by the filtered blastbeat sonic-crunch. Imagine your favorite genres being extracted to your harddisk, torn to shreds and spat back out in the form of metallic digital powder. Imagine DIY laptop hardcore geeks having convulsions and vomiting buttermilk. The music is much more appealing than that. Phantomsmasher is music that makes you feel excited about art once again." -Ipecac

Ufomammut & Lent0 - Supernaturals Record One

"SUPERNATURALS is an improvised session between the kings of deep noise Ufomammut and the amazing ambient postcorers Lent0. A super hypnotic and telluric monster in which the two bands play around repetitive atmosphere broken by fragile openings. Four guitars, a bass, a drumkit, a mic and synths create a monumental sound in six songs that are the prelude to the upcoming first record of Lent0 (Earthen - out september 2007) and the monolithic sequel of Lucifer Songs by Ufomammut."

Ash Ra Tempel - self-titled (1971)

2 long tracks on this, Ash Ra Tempel's first release. The first being a monster psychedelic jam that sounds like something Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers) would record if he travelled back in time. The second track is an ambient number that sounds like early Eno, Popol Vuh and Neu's more ambient tracks.
